  • 2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz passion fruit syrup
  • 1/2 oz grenadine
  • 3 oz Bourbon
  • 2 cups ice

Put everything in a blender. Blend at high speed for 5 seconds. Pour unstrained into a port light glass or tall glass.

The passion fruit syrup nicely offsets the power of the bourbon. This drink gets even better as the ice melts.

30-Nov-2014 Trader Vic Grog

  • 2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 2 oz unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 2 oz passion fruit syrup
  • 4 oz dark Jamaican rum
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Shake well with plenty of ice. Pour unstrained into a tulip glass or a tall glass. Garnish with a sprig of mint.

Excellent example of stardard Polynesian Pop potation. Anything made with passion fruit syrup immediately brings you to palm trees, trade winds and hula girls, especially when drinking on a cold November night in New England.

12-Oct-2014 Fogg Cutter

  • 2 oz orange juice
  • 1 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • 1 oz light Puerto Rican rum
  • 1 oz dark Jamaican rum
  • 1 oz brandy
  • 1 oz gin
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 8 oz crushed ice

Put all in a blender and blend for 5 seconds. Pour unstrained into a tall glass or a tiki mug.

This is an excellent drink, a bit of a monster to assemble but worth it. This recipe is for a single. A double of this would fill a rum barrel or oversized tiki mug.

  • 2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 oz Galliano
  • 1 1/2 oz Cointreau
  • 2 1/2 oz Cognac

Vigorously shake all ingredients with ice cubes. Pour unstrained into a double old-fashioned glass.

This drink has quickly climbed up my favorites list. It's not quite the perfection that is both the Beachnik and the Test Pilot, but it's damn close. The sourness of the lemon juice and power of the cognac helps temper the vanilla-anise-orange sweetness of the Galliano and Cointreau. This is a wonderful complement to a mild-to-medium cigar after dinner, or makes a strong statement to begin an evening's drinking activities (hence, the name Sundowner).
